Sunday School
The Christian Education program at Rutgers invites people
to grow in faith and discipleship through the study
of scripture, theology, and the world in which we are
called to serve. We believe people of all ages learn
best when questions and doubts are explored rather than
stifled, and when everyone is welcome and respected.
Adults meet most Sundays between September and June before the service at 9:45 am (child care provided). Past classes have included discussions of the Pauline letters in their historical context and the Reformed tradition, in-depth studies of the Ten Commandments, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and the Acts of the Apostles.
Youth are encouraged to attend Sunday morning classes with adults. We have a small but active number of youth who take part in the worship and in caring ministries of the church, working alongside other members. Throughout the year we also have projects specifically for young people, and every spring, youth and children take responsibility for leading a worship service, including the preaching. We have confirmation classes for young people to explore making an affirmation of faith and becoming full members of the church. This is our 2010 Confirmation Class. And we have a new youth group, S.K.A.T.E. (Sanctuary for Kids of Acceptance, Trust and Education) that meets monthly for service activities, fun, and spiritual connection. Photo album
Children
(ages 3-12)
worship with their families until the end of the Children's
Sermon, when they go upstairs for Sunday School. Classes
are taught by staff and volunteers, using the We Believe curriculum, a resource designed by PC (USA)
to acquaint children with a wide range of stories in
both the Old and New Testaments. Sunday School begins
with a worship circle and includes crafts, drama and
snack.
Infants
and Toddlers are cared for during the service
by our warm and experienced staff. Parents are welcome
to bring (or pick up) their children any time beginning
at 10:45 am, or earlier when there is an adult class.
Children of any age are also welcome to stay with their
families during worship.
